SOCIAL MEDIA HEADER SIZE AND IMAGE SIZE CHART FOR:
FACEBOOK COVER, TWITTER, YOUTUBE, LINKEDIN, PINTEREST,
TUMBLR, GOOGLE PLUS, INSTAGRAM & AMAZON ARTISON PROFILE CHEAT SHEET

Sometimes you need the real size of the header, cover or profile picture/image for the social media site you're posting to. Nothing is more annoying than getting your pic all perfect and submitting it to the site just to have them chop off all the sides and make your picture look stupid and not right on the page. This header size & image size chart will help you out so that you get it right the first time. No one knows why the social media sites change these sizes all the time, they are not set in stone.

Example: The seller central site for Amazon lists that your image needs to be at least 1200 pixels by 350 pixels. Why tell us that when you're going to really make the picture 970 x 275 pixels? Why not just use the whole 1200 x 350? Jerks! So, when you make your original picture, make it 970 x 275 and add a white border to it to make sure the whole outside size is 1200 x 350. Then when you post the picture, it will make you cut it to 970 x275 and you can now cut out your "real" picture using their crop feature and fit everything you want in the image now. Perfect!

If you don't know much about manipulating pictures, see my article on how to use PicMonkey for free to do it with: How to use PicMonkey. FYI: A 1:1 ratio below means that the site will stretch or shrink your picture evenly left to right and up to down so that it doesn't come out looking funny, either streched too wide or squished down. You'll be safe on all sites if you save it as a .jpg. Not all sites take .gif or .png pictures. It all has to do with storage space (in the background stuff that you can't see).

FACEBOOK - Profile image: Make it 180x180 but they will only use 160x160 so make sure you don't put anything you don't want cut off too close to the edges. Cover photo: Make it 851x315 anything less will be stretched to fit, possibly making your image look funny. Shared images: Upload size is 1200x630. This will appear in the feed at a max width of 470 with a 1:1 ratio. This will appear on a page with the max width being 504 pixels and a 1:1 ratio.

TWITTER - The header pic size is 1500x500 and the profile photo must upload at 400x400 but displays as 200x200. Most peoples photos are taller than they are wide, so make your picture square so you don't get stretched wider.

GOOGLE + - Profile Image: This can start out quite large at 5,200x5,300 but will be shrunk to a 250x250 circle. Just make it 250x250 to start, but it must be a square that will make you cut out a circle in the middle. It can be as small as 120x120 to upload, but will stretch it ugly/blurry. Cover image/header pic is 1080 wide by 608 tall. Minimum is 480x270 witch will stretch a lot, to a max of 2120x1192. Shared Image: 497x393 which g+ will render as a square of 150x150 for a shared link, which is stupid. They let you put up a wide pic then square it to share, so just put up a 393x393 to start so it looks good shared.

LINKEDIN - Background Image: Size is 1,000x425 but will you upload 4,000x4,000 but will squish it because it's going to end up a rectagle, so don't start with a square. Profile Images: 400x400. They will let you upload 200x200 and they will stretch it to 400x400. Make sure you start out with a square then. It can be very large, up to 20,000 x 20,000. Career Cover Photo: 974x300. Banner Image: 646x220. Logo: The little square logo has to be 50x50 so make it count.

YOUTUBE - Channel Cover Image/Header: 2560x1440. The minimum video size for HD is 1280x720 pixels. 1920x1080 resolution is "Full HD" and avoids the black bars at the sides.

PINTEREST - Your profile image has to be uploaded as 165x165. They show it at 32x32 on the rest of Pinterest, so make sure it's a good, clear shot that when shrunk, still looks like you or whatever your subject matter is. Board Display: these are optimal at 222x150 pixels. Infographic: 3432 pixels tall x 936 wide is the maximum that will come out best. Regular Pin: A good size to stick with and what I use is: 600 x 1000 to show the whole pin on an Iphone 5 and up. Any taller makes the viewer have to scroll down.

TUMBLR - Different themes available on Tumblr decide what size your ulimate profile pic will be. It will end up completely square, so make your your picture is sqare to start with. 128x128 is a good rule of thumb. Image Posts: are 750 tall x 500 wide with a masx of 1280x1920. Animated gifs max out at 500x500 with 1 megabyte max memory.

INSTAGRAM - Profile Image: 110x110 square must be uploaded and stays that size. Photo Thumbnail: Will be 161x161 square. Photo Size: When adding a photo to show everyone, that size must be 1080x1080 and they squish it down to 612x612 for you.

AMAZON SELLER CENTRAL (ARTISON PROFILE) - Make your original picture, make it 970 x 275 and add a white border to it to make sure the whole outside size is 1200 x 350. Then when you post the picture, it will make you cut it to 970 x275 and you can now cut out your "real" picture using their crop feature and fit everything you want in the image now
