HOW TO USE STUMBLEUPON.COM FOR TRAFFIC - SECRETS FROM A BLOGGER

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

How to use Stumbleupon.com for traffic. Secrets from a blogger. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Stumbleupon may seem like a silly website. You fill in your likes and dislikes and it picks sites for you to see, randomly.

Don't let it fool you. You can use it to get traffic to your site for free. Just join them for free, click the down arrow at the upper right by your imposed avatar, then choose, Add a Site in the middle and add your website(s) or a page at a time. Don't forget to stumble around a bit when your done (after filling in your interests).

You also can create just certain pages especially for Stumbleupon that will draw interest to your site, but not something you want on your first page of your actual site, like some news story that just came up recently.

Whenever you post your page or site to a category, try to pick the on with the biggest amount of people going there regularly, like: computer hardware, computers, computer security & cell phones have really large lists of subscribers.

It's also possible to "game" their system (alright, cheat the system) by adding your site to different categories with ?randomtext at the end, like htttp://davidstilesblog.com?lmnop or for you bloggers that have a site like mine where every story can be called up individually on a page, you can add each page like thus: http://davidstilesblog.com/April2015.html#storyApril30b just like at the top of this page your are looking at. The #storyApril30b took you to this exact article and looks like a seperate page to stumbleupon so you can upload each article that has a differnt URL.

People will stumble upon your website 24 hours a day. Free traffic for about 2 minutes work. Well done!

Don't be in a hurry. Like all sites/search engines, it takes time to build up momentum.

Make sure your site is professionally done. I've seen a lot of junk on there as well as some super sites that are very interesting.

Never discount social media sites. They will continue to be a huge source of free traffic for years to come.

HOW TO DRIVE FREE TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE OR BLOG

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO DRIVE FREE TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE OR BLOG. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Free traffic...we all dream about it. Millions of people coming to your website, clicking on every monetized offer you have, you making thousands of dollars a day while you sip margaritas on the beach in San Tropez...

And now, (the sound of a needle scratching across a record), real life sets in! Okay, okay. It doesn't just happen that way, but it can. It's a lot of hard work. Grinding away day after day.

Here's the real deal for getting free traffic to your website or blog...

1) Work every day doing posts on as many social media accounts you have. Pinterest and twitter are great, but use as many as you have time for. Create a buzz. Be different. Post often. Wait. It takes time. Chances are you won't go viral overnight, so the turtle will win the race. It's not a sprint.

2) Go to Google for information. Looking for what's hot? What is everyone typing in to google and searching for the most right now? GOOGLE WHAT'S HOT LINK.  Google gives you free information on the most searched for keywords/topics over time: GOOGLE TRENDS.  Use adwords google keyword tool: GOOGLE KEYWORD TOOLS to look up words/keywords and how often are they used per month.

3) Incorporate keywords into your title, heading using h1, and down in the pages. Example: Title of my elephant site, after looking in google keywords and finding out the phrase searched each month the most, "Elephants are like Humans". Then, in your first line on your page, use headline size h1 to reiterate this, type it in again, "Elephants are like Humans". Try to mention it several times within your page, but don't get spammy. Google loves "like" content, but hates word spamming.

4) If you have picture on your page, make sure to fill in the ALT tags that let you put a brief description of your picture. Use this to your advantage. Don't just put, "Elephant pic". Write it more descriptive of the content of your page. Something like, "Elephants acting human", throwing in the keywords 'elephant' and 'human'.

5) Try not to go off subject too much. Stick with elephants acting human without side bars talking about elephant feed or bananas and how they're grown. Too much extra blah blah blah.

6) Google always likes to see articles of at least 500 words. Squeeze pages/landing pages are hard to rank, usually because there is so little content on them.

A LITTLE ABOUT KEYWORDS AND DESCRIPTION META TAGS

7) Meta tags are still useful, but keyword meta tags with Google are dead. Fill in the description to match what your page is about, keeping in mind to match the top searched for keywords from Google tools. I've seen a site rank in it's category with barely any content, under 100 words, and all the guy did to show you he can rank #1 on google, as an example, without a lot of SEO going into it. Check his page out, look at his simple source code of his page. Simple! And yet he ranks #1 on google in his category: SIMPLE SEO TOP GOOGLE PAGE

8) You can go to youtube and look at videos on how to get massive traffic for free from social media accounts also. Some of these guys will "spill the beans" for free. Search stuff like, "Get traffic from Reddit", or "Website hits from Facebook".

Unless you have something that goes viral, and that's 1 in a million chances, you're stuck with us regular Joe's, churning out free ads online, day in, day out, drumming up buzz and free traffic to our websites.

FREE ANIMATED GIF MAKER - NO WATERMARKS, NO LOGO

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

FREE ANIMATED GIF MAKER - NO WATERMARKS, NO LOGO. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Have you ever wanted to make an animated .gif image? You know, the kind that move in the image on the internet? Well, now you can for FREE!

It's just a very tiny program that runs on your computer and you can add a minimum of 2 pictures (like my DSB example below) and the program will animate it for you. I made the animated gif in less than 1 minute. Image/picture making programs can't animate a .gif (like paint or Paintshop Pro), so you need a program like this one. If you tried looking at a .gif in your favorite picture making program, it will only show you the first picture (.gifs are made of combining 2 or more pictures so that it looks animated) because it can't render multiple pictures at once (animation).

From: DavidStilesBlog.com

So I've set this all up with instructions to help you out, even making a page where you can quickly see your new .gif picture to make sure it looks like you want before you go posting it on the internet.

You can take any 2 pictures, even use stills from a TV show or movie and make them "move" with this Animated Gif Maker program. It's pretty cool. You can use gifs a lot of places, I've even seen some moving gifs on Pinterest, for a couple of people who put it as their profile picture and I can see it blinking on their pin at the bottom. It really draws your attention to their pin.

This is a pretty basic program that downloads really quickly onto your computer. There are NO viruses, NO adware, NO spyware, NO whateverbadware that comes with it, I am a professional.

Download the .zip file here (& see pic below) (you can't download from a cell phone, you have to do it on a PC only) and pay attention to where it goes on your computer (usually the "download" folder or whatever you have set up on your own computer). Unzip the .zip file and start by reading the instructions.htm page AND then click on AnimateGif.exe to open the gif making program. If you found this useful, leave a comment/message on the below link.

MONETIZE YOUR BLOG, TWITTER, FACEBOOK, FLICKR, YOUTUBE, INSTAGRAM, GOOGLE+, FOURSQUARE, LINKEDIN, TUMBLR OR WORDPRESS ACCOUNT NOW

Here it is folks, the solution to what we've all been looking for: How to monetize your social media account(s).

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

MONETIZE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS. FREE! From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Click the picture above and be taken to the site to where you want to be, but let me explain the program first:

I am affiliated with a website that will let you signup your social media accounts and get sponsors for you. The sponsors will offer you money to send out their message with their automated messenger (they will post it for you, after you've said ok to the price/offer).

You can signup now and work on getting followers or if you have 1,000 followers at least on at least 1 social media account, it will work right away, begin getting larger offers. Some as high as $27 for each post!

The followers have to be "true" followers, not followers that you got by following them. Example: If you have 1,300 followers but you had to follow 2,000 people to get them, it won't count. It has to be real followers that are following you because of the great content you have.

This program is better than the pre-packaged programs like on youtube, that automatically assigns sponsors to you and you have no idea what they are paying, probably much less than this program

Give it a try! It's FREE and easy to sign up.  Social Media to Cash

STOP PEOPLE FROM PINTEREST PINNING OR ALSO COPYING YOUR IMAGES FROM YOUR WEBSITE

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

MAKE YOUR IMAGES UN-PINNABLE OR ALSO UN-COPYABLE BY OTHER PEOPLE ON YOUR WEBSITE. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Some of this is easy and some is complicated. Not my fault. The the way we have to use the internet (browsers/Wordpress) are complicated, so I hope this doesn't go over your head. It took me 6 hours to figure out all this article to make sure everything works. It does as of this writing.

SEE THE NO 'RIGHT CLICK' NO LET CELL PHONE 'COPY/SAVE AS' IN ACTION. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE IMAGE YOU CAN'T COPY OR PIN

This article ended up in 2 steps to NOT let anyone pin: individual images or the whole page

AND 2 steps to NOT let anyone copy/download/save as your images.

FIRST NO PIN CODE FOR INDIVIDUAL IMAGES:

If you want to stop people from pinning a certain picture, and not EVERY picture/image, then when you create an image, put, nopin="nopin" in the attributes. (You can't copy and paste from this page on DavidStilesBlog.com, sorry. You'll have to write nopin="nopin".)

Add the "nopin" code to the pictures' code like so: <img src="myimportantpicture.jpg" nopin="nopin" /> You can have your other attributes in their as well, like: height="" width="" alt="" title="" align="" etc.

NOTE for geeks: No need to add the "no pin" code on CSS background images, images that have the "data-pin-no-hover="true" set on it or images that are smaller than 80x80 pixels, because the "pin" function won't work anyway.

2ND NO PIN CODE FOR YOUR WHOLE WEBPAGE:

If you want to prevent EVERY image on your page from being Pinterest pinnable do this:

Non-Wordpress/Non-Joomla/Non-Drupal users: Html people only - click the link below and copy the code, brackets and all, and put it just under your Title tag of your page, with the other meta tags. It needs to be in between your <head> & </head> tags: COPY THE CODE HERE (because my page is non-right clickable)

Wordpress people, this code needs to go with your other meta tags. I don't use Wordpress so it's hard for me to guess. Hopefully, you've downloaded one of their SEO programs that let you write in meta tags or I think you can open, Themes, Editor, header.php and see your meta tags, I don't know. You will have to cut and paste this and put it with your other meta tags: COPY THE CODE HERE (because my page is non-right clickable)

This is pretty useful, especially if you have pictures of your kids or personal pictures or "risque" pictures that you don't want strangers to be able to download/copy/save off of your website. No method is foolproof and this may stop people now, but not in the future as they make changes to browser, so beware.

Wordpress users - you could use this plugin and skip all the below - Wordpress Plugin to Prevent Image Download/Copying. I haven't tried it to see if it prevents both PC's AND phone browsers from being able to copy/save your images or do the below steps to be sure.

There are 2 code sequences below that all you have to do is cut and paste to your site. If you have Wordpress that is written in .php, it is a little more difficult because they don't make manual page changes very easy for you, but I've included them in my instructions below.

#1 - NO COPY/SAVE AS CODE AGAINST CELL PHONES:

The below code keeps a phone browser from being able to copy or save your pictures (at least it works for my Iphone), by replacing the picture with a clear/transparent gif.

HTML people - Click the link below and put this code on your page anywhere between body tags.

Wordpress people, FIRST - save a copy of your site (.xml file) to your computer in a place you can find it again readily just in case you mess up. You can go to your dashboard, go to Themes, edit, and choose the footer.php page on the right. Double click to open it up (to make things easier, copy everything from the top to the bottom and paste it on a blank page of Notebook or any other writing program so you can come back and copy/paste it back to Wordpress if you need to and not find your .xml file on your computer). Click the link below, copy and paste the code somewhere on the footer page, usually just after any </div> tag. I can't really tell you because EVERY theme is different. It shouldn't hurt anything if you don't put it in the middle of a div /div function and anyway, you've made a copy of your site's xml file and/or a copy of footer.php to fix it.

NO COPY/SAVE CELL PHONE CODE

Replace the parts in red with your own website name and file (Example: http://mysitename/images/) where you make a transparent gif picture and name it, "Transparent.gif". Note the capital "T" in the word Transparent. That way, if they ever stop making a transparent gif available to the public, your website won't get messed up as you're hosting the transparent gif yourself. It can be 1 pixel by 1 pixel, or at least something small, or you can easily copy one from a search on Google images.

#2 - NO COPY/SAVE AS CODE AGAINST PC'S:

This one keeps people on a PC from being able to "right click" and choose save/copy/download of your images.

NO RIGHT CLICK CODE

And you can now see the final result. Click the below link:

SEE THE NO 'RIGHT CLICK' NO LET CELL PHONE 'COPY/SAVE AS' IN ACTION. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE IMAGE YOU CAN'T COPY OR PIN

WORDPRESS 4.2 UPDATE MAKE YOUR SITE BLANK?

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

WORDPRESS 4.2 UPDATE MADE MY SITE BLANK OR NOT WORK. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

In the last 6 days, Wordpress has been a big pain for everyone. (That's why this site is written in html 5/6). If you've recently discovered your site is now blank, limping, broken, it's Wordpress's fault.

Either your site automatically updated to 4.2 or your Host updated their PHP back-end stuff that runs Wordpress and now your site is gone or severely injured.

Below are just some of the fixes I found online. Some depend on if you had a plugin mess up (like Jetpack) or updating to 4.2 or your Host updating. In the future, I do NOT recommend using Wordpress, for just such instances, where your site is down and no one knows how to fix it. With html sites, I would just upload everything again and in 3 minutes, my whole site would be working again.

Jetpack caused problems: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/wordpress-update-42-issue

Turned all pages into posts: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/42-update-turned-all-pages-into-posts-big-mess

Site all blank: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/blank-white-page-after-updating-to-42-and-updating-themes

Site all blank, even dashboard: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/upgrade-to-42-site-went-blank-even-dashboard

If that doesn't fix it, I would just delete the /wordpress file via FTP and reload it through my host. Hopefully you have the latest updated copy of your .xml file that you can re-load up to your Wordpress dashboard and everything should be good again. Maybe lost some of your plugins..

I'm sorry you had this trouble, but that's what happens when you rely on a wonky 3rd party like Wordpress.

HOW TO ADD ADSENSE TO YOUR WORDPRESS SITE/BLOG THE EASY WAY

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

How to add Google Adsense to your Wordpress site or blog. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Well, you signed up with Google Adsense and got the code, how do you add the Adsense code to your Wordpress site or blog? They don't help you with that part, they just say, "Here's the code". Big help that is.

Without getting all technical and telling you to go into your actual pages that WP makes and changing code there, why not just get the free Wordpress snippet below and be done with it? Make sure you have the right updated theme version that is compatible with their HTML Snippet version. Wordpress will usually let you know. So go to your Wordpress dashboard, themes, plugins and type in the search box, Insert HTML Snippet or download it from the link below and upload it to Wordpress.

Get the Wordpress Insert HTML Snippet plugin here

This is a great plugin. You may have had other things you wanted to add to your Wordpress site, but didn't want to mess with the .php pages and code. Let these smart guys do it for you (well, with your help). Below is a screen shot of what will come up after loading the Insert HTML Snippet plugin and activating it and telling it you want to add some code.

Wordpress Insert HTML Snippet plugin screenshot. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

Now it's easy as pie to put in any code you come across in the future as well, like the Pinterest Hover Pin it button in the below article. You have to give your code your addding a name (so that you'll know what its for later and you can pause or delete the code if you want in the future).

WHY YOU MUST USE THE TITLE TAG FOR PICTURES AND HAVE THE PINTEREST "PIN IT" BUTTON

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

WHY YOU MUST USE THE TITLE TAG FOR PICTURES - ESPECIALLY FOR PINTEREST. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Most people with websites make use of only the ALT tag when putting a picture on their website or blog (for SEO). You have to change with the times. The new way is to add a title tag as well and here's why that's very important...

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ALT TAG AND THE TITLE TAG FOR AN IMAGE

First an image "title tag" is different from your "Page" title tag that shows at the top of the browser, so don't confuse the two.

Alt tags are primarily used by the search engines data bots to know what your picture is about. It can also be the wording seen when you hover over a picture.

Title tags are the ones used for Pinterest pin descriptions and also can be the wording seen when hovered over the picture. So if you don't have the title tag, hovering over the picture will show you the Alt tag info, if you have the Alt AND title tag filled in, the title tag info will be shown on hovering and on Pinterest description. This gives your the choice of stuffing the alt tags with keywords like: "cooking, chefs, recipes, free recipes" while the title tag says, "Free recipes about fine food made by the worlds top chefs". The people will only see the full sentence and NOT the alt tags keyword stuffing. Get it?

The tags can read the exact same or you could just stuff the Alt tag with keywords.

Pinterest has now moved up to the #1 spot for sales on the internet. Way better than Facebook or Twitter. When someone comes to your site and sees an article they want to pin to Pinterest, they will invoke the "pin" function either in their browser as an extension or, hopefully, you have put a "Pin it" button on your page which allows anyone to pin your photo to Pinterest. If you don't have it, copy and paste the below code into your page between the body tags:

<!-- Pinterest Pin It button shows up on all pictures --> <script type="text/javascript" async defer data-pin-color="red" data-pin-height="28" data-pin-hover="true" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js"></script> <!-- End Pinterest Pin It button -->

This Pinterest script will show a red "Pin it" button when you hover on any picture on that page so that the reader can pin it to Pinterest.

Now here's the bad part...if you're not using at least the "Alt" tag, when someone pins your picture, the "description" will say, "picofspaghettirecipe.jpg" or whatever you called the photo. Wouldn't you rather it say, "How to make real Italian spaghetti on a budget. From: FoodForThought.com"?

I've even seen some blogs have a picture that leads you to the main article and when you get there, there aren't any pictures to pin! Duh! Where have you been the last 3 years that Pinterest has become a behemoth? Wake up and smell the pins!

So, you're effectively killing a lot of your search engine optimization (by not stuffing with keywords) or by not making a title tag in your photo code. If you have no photos to pin on the page with your article, you're killing Pinterest traffic (why not go to your closet, take out your bowling ball, and drop it on your foot?)

SEO. Let's talk about search engine optimization for a sec. Google puts all Pinterests' pins into their database now. Each pin with a description may come up on the front page of Google for some excellent traffic for those savvy enough to put pictures all over their articles AND fills in the title tag.

DMOZ...THE MOST POWERFUL NAME IN THE INTERNET UNIVERSE!

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

DMOZ...THE MOST POWERFUL NAME IN THE INTERNET UNIVERSE! INSANE TRAFFIC WITH LITTLE EFFORT. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

You've made a new site and want to get traffic to it. You go online for weeks, submitting your domain name to hundreds of search engines, starting with the big ones, Google, Yahoo, Lycos etc. Good job wasting time! Here's why...

DMOZ.org (the Open Directory Project, ODP) is the internet brain for the search engines data. They pick the DMOZ's brain of data because it is organized by hand and categorized by real humans that make your searches more relevant.

Here's what DMOZ.org says, "DMOZ is the most widely distributed data base of Web content classified by humans.  Its editorial standards body of net-citizens provide the collective brain behind resource discovery on the Web.  DMOZ powers the core directory services for the Web's largest and most popular search engines and portals, including Netscape Search, AOL Search, Google, Lycos, HotBot, DirectHit, and hundreds of others."

The secret to getting listed by them, is to make it easy on the person that is going to actually say "ok" to your site being in their database. You do this by finding the best category for your site and then hitting the "suggest url" button at the top. Example: instead of just putting your Camping Equipment site under "Home",  go further into it, Recreation, Outdoors, Equipment, Cooking and then hit the "suggest url" link.

Don't be greedy! You can't submit here and to the websites themselves, it won't work.
It's free to suggest a site, but don't order a bunch of inventory yet!  They say it takes 2 weeks to 3 months to be listed, I've found it to more the latter.

I still put my sites on the big search engines myself: Google, Yahoo and Lycos, because they have developed some of their own webpage indexers/crawlers and may at anytime quit using DMOZ.

It's free to put your site on DMOZ, so take your time and choose the best category for what you do and submit and wait on the traffic. Click here to get started

HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR WORDPRESS SITE. OPTIMIZE WORDPRESS PLUGINS

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR WORDPRESS SITE. OPTIMIZE WORDPRESS PLUGINS WITH THESE 2 FREE PLUGINS. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

So you don't think your WordPress site is slow? Well everyone else does. Especially if you don't live right next to a cell tower and you have 1-2 bars most of the time. 2 miles from a cell tower will do that to anyone. You probably have a few plugins slowing everything down.

Stuff like: SEO plugins, Social Media Plugins, picture slider plugins, whatever-is-cool plugins. Yes? Well, here are 2 FREE WordPress plugins to fix your slow plugins.

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR WORDPRESS SITE. OPTIMIZE WORDPRESS PLUGINS. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

1) WORDPRESS PERFORMANCE PACK (FREE):

This is what their plugin says: "WP Performance Pack is your first choice for speeding up WordPress core the easy way, no core patching required. It features options to improve localization performance and image handling (faster upload, reduced webspace usage). Combined with CDN support for images, both on the site and in the admin area, this offers similar image acceleration as Jetpack Photon."

That and some more paragraphs about egg-head gobblty-gook. Anyway, it's all good and will speed up your site. WP Performance Pack has 4 stars and over 1,000 used it and seems to get updated frequently.

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR WORDPRESS SITE. OPTIMIZE WORDPRESS PLUGINS. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

2) WordPress Plugin Performance Profiler

Here's what this plugin says, "This plugin creates a profile of your WordPress site's plugins' performance by measuring their impact on your site's load time. Often times, WordPress sites load slowly because of poorly configured plugins or because there are so many of them. By using the P3 plugin, you can narrow down anything causing slowness on your site."

So this one puts out a report to tell you what's slowing your site down, while the first one actually optimizes it. You have a choice between the 2. If you choose this one, then the report will tell you which plugin is slowing you down. Turn off or delete that plugin and download and set up another one from wordpress and check it out as well to make sure it's not doing the same thing. If you find all the free plugins seem to be slowing your site down, pay a couple bucks and actually buy a good plugin. Stuff by Yoast or Jetpack seem to be good names in the WordPress circles.

[#wordpressperformance, #wordpressspeed, #optimize, #optimization, #tuning, #i18n, #internationalization, #translation, #translate, #l10n, #localization, #localize, #language, #languages, #mo, #gettext, #thumbnails, #images, #intermediate, #resize, #quality, #regenerate, #exif, #fast, #upload, #cdn, #maxcdn, #coralcdn, #photon, #dynamic links] Just some tags for Google.

"HOW TO" VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE FOR PROFIT (OR TRAFFIC)
Step right up folks. Easy street is just a block away...

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE FOR PROFIT (OR TRAFFIC). From: DavidStilesBlog.com

How to make "how to" videos on YouTube for profit (or, for advertising your product/website). Easy money? Sort of. Lots of work goes into planning, executing and editing these things, but the payoff can be rewarding. Look at this video on YouTube...

This seemingly waste of time video (BELOW), 10 office pranks, started in Jun 2014 and as of now, April 24, 2015, has racked up 7,300,000 views! No easy task. You try it. Most videos DO NOT get that many views.

However, a lot of the "How to" videos do. Make one and make a profits. These guys have the ads turned on and they are making $ every time you go there. Super! Does it look like this video cost them a fortune or a whole lotta time to make it? Not really. A camera, some pranks and a little time to tape it and edit and then post it.

Subject matter: It can be anything, even something that seems boring or stupid. You also want to "think outside the box and be different so that you're not one of 5,000 videos, but one of 5 or 50.

Now, YouTubers are sworn to secrecy (at the threat of death or something by YouTube) not to tell how much they make. I can tell you, the guys with 4 million watches in 8 months and growing are making a-plenty.

Camera: Get a camera that is HD quality and make sure to get a separate microphone that plug in and can be boomed over the people talking or that the camera comes with an excellent one that has an extension and a windproof mic cover (a pop cover for the "p" sound that make a popping noise in your mic from the wind of it). A lot of you bloggers are guilty of not having this. I see your video's. Pop, pop, pop go the p's.

Make it professional quality enough that people will want to watch your videos not only for the content, but for the quality of picture and sound.

Lighting: Who wants a crappy, darkish movie? Maybe buy some cheap lighting off eBay to use or some of the little "shop lights" at WalMart or Home Depo that are fluorescent, they're like $10 bucks. You need lighting on top and the sides for sure to make the best picture quality. Don't overdo it. Take some video then look at it in editing first to make sure you don't shoot the whole video over or under lit.

Editing: Some cameras might come with their own software edit your sound and movie or pick one off the internet. They run anywhere between $29 and $59. I myself, use Serif Movieplus X6, for $59. It took a couple hours to learn how to use it all. It does have 'wizards' to help you. YouTube itself has an editor. Look at it sometime. Click the "Upload" button when you signed into YouTube at the top right. It's pretty self explanatory and they have a little movie to show you how.

GOOGLE ADSENSE TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR PROFITS

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

GOOGLE ADSENSE TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR PROFITS. From: DavidStilesBlog.com. #adsense, #googletips

Google Adsense is probably one of the easiest ways to monetize your website/blog. I do it on some of my sites and others not. Google won't tell you this but, if you don't have a privacy policy link to http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/ on your website, you will make less money than if you did. My guess is, some "partners" click a box when they signup to pay Google to run their ads and the privacy policy is required to be on your site to be able to run their ads, so their ad will never show on your website (if you don't have a privacy policy on there) and they can be some premium players, like Walmart or Proctor & Gamble.

Many people get complacent about their monetization. Stagnant, if you will. Tweak your money. Check other sites that do stuff like adsense, https://chitika.com/. Do a google search. Maybe they have some different advertisers that have products that do better in your niche site, you never know.

If you want to stick with Adsense, then make sure you put on Adsense units. Use the skyscraper and leaderboard size. They get more attention ie, clicks. Don't be afraid to "ruin the experience" for your dedicated minions that come to your site. After all, if it's not worth it to you, you probably won't keep the site anyway, unless you like working for free, I don't. Lol.

If you run a WordPress site, download and put CM Ad Changer on your blog/website. It's free from WordPress and here's what it does:

The CM Ad Changer manages several banner advertising campaigns across multiple WordPress sites simultaneously. As an ad-server, plugin settings manage or restrict the showing of banner ads according to each campaign parameters. Campaign settings include days of the week, custom ad campaign dates, maximum numbers of impressions or clicks per banner. The ad-server's management console is intuitive and easy to use. View statistic for each campaign on multiple WordPress websites. Get it here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/cm-ad-changer/.

HOW DOES YOUR WEBSITE LOOK ON A MOBILE DEVICE?
MY GUESS IS...CRAPPY!

MOBILE READY YOUR SITE NOW

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW DOES YOUR WEBSITE LOOK ON A MOBILE DEVICE LIKE IPHONE? I BET...CRAPPY! (Especially you guys that advertise your site on your Pinterest main board). Here's what's wrong...From: DavidStilesBlog.com

How people view your site is important, especially to you since if your site's jacked-up, they won't be staying long or clicking on your precious money-maker ads.

I've seen so many messed up sites lately, and I'm sure that the web owner doesn't even know it. Their site looks fine on a PC, but, at least on an Iphone, looks all messed up off the screen or certain functions, like a common menu button made by having a Wordpress site, locks up the safari browser that comes with an Iphone.

For goodness sakes! Look at your site in different browsers and mobile devices. If you don't have an Iphone, have a friend tell you if everything is alright.

I look at everyone's website that has it on their main Pinterest board page. 4 out of 5 of them are jacked! Usually I can't resize it AND it's running out of the right side of the browser. Aaaargh! I hate that! I want to see their site, but the Wordpress theme that they have chosen isn't optimized for mobile devices.

The fix? Change themes and then check it on this free mobile browser testing site: MobileTest.me on each of the 5 different mobile test phones/tablets. When you get it right on there, then go to Google's tester, which is the one you want to pass, Google Mobile ready site tester. I know themes twenty fifteen and twenty twelve work well on mobile. I haven't tested the others or the thousands you can download from WP or 3rd party vendors, but here's the deal...your website is probably useless even with the correct themes, because you have ads on there that are leaderboard size and don't fit on the smaller mobile screens. So that's part of fixing your site so that everything will 'scale' to fit. Some of the smaller Android device screens are only 320 pixels wide! See pic below.

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

From: DavidStilesBlog.com

With at least 63% of the people looking at your site from a mobile device (cellphone & tablet), do you really want it working poorly?

At the very least you can set your Wordpress site to allow the mobile users to adjust screenwidth. From what I've seen, most of you guys have it set to "locked" and I can't resize your site to even look at it properly. Talk to your webmaster or look it up online.

I've coded this site, DavidStilesBlog.com, by hand and made sure it looks good on all devices. I wish people didn't rely on Wordpress to do everything for them, but I get that it's lot easier because you barely have to learn or do anything to get a site up quickly, even if it isn't perfect.

Good luck, and let's make it a better viewing experience for the 60%+ crowd that you've been ignoring.

7 TIPS ON HOW TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR - THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU QUIT YOUR JOB

Becoming a successful #entrepreneur takes more than a great idea and important connections (although both do help). Making the shift from the steady life of a full-time employee to the unpredictable world of entrepreneurship requires a shift in mindset that many overlook. In fact, some of the work habits you so carefully honed as a good employee don'tnecessarily translate well into the world of entrepreneurship.

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

7 TIPS ON HOW TO BECOME AN #ENTREPRENEUR. FROM DAVIDSTILESBLOG.COM

According to the Small Business Administration, only 50% of new businesses will survive to see their fifth year. Making that mental switch from employee to entrepreneur can help you avoid being one of those businesses that doesn'tmake it. Here are seven tips for thought while adjusting to life as an entrepreneur:

1. STICK TO A REGULAR SCHEDULE

Is your new business largely autonomous project work? Is there no set schedule because you're building your startup from square one? As you make the transition to working for yourself, try to keep your existing schedule as much as possible. Being in charge doesn'tmean you should get rid of your alarm clock or take four-hour lunches. Having some semblance of a schedule will help you stay disciplined and productive.

Many professionals choose self-employment because they're tired of the strict and arbitrary schedule of the corporate world. So there's no need to recreate the same drudgery in your new venture. If you need some time in the afternoon to take care of your kids, walk your dog, or get outside while it's sunny, go ahead. Only you can decide what kind of schedule is best for your business and your life.

2. FORGET ABOUT PERFECTION

Maybe you used to have a boss that needed to get a project as close to perfection as possible. Or, there were endless rounds of revisions before something was ready to go. While that may be the way at a large company, a small business or startup won'thave the resources to get something to perfect and the whole notion of perfection isn'tpossible anyway. Make it as good as you can and move on.

As an entrepreneur, perfectionism becomes a liability. The longer you wait for every detail to be just right, the slower your business will move. Focus on the high-impact, high-priority items, and accept 80% (sometimes less) for everything else. As the poster at Facebook famously says, "Done is better than perfect."

3. BE THE BOSS AND ALL THE EMPLOYEES

As a company employee, there's someone to call when the server stops working. And you probably don'tthink about if the floor was vacuumed or the plant was watered. But, when you strike out on your own, you've now got to fill a number of different roles from tech support one hour to sales and marketing the next, and accounting, even cleaning. With this reality, you can'tafford to have an ego. Before setting off on your own, ask yourself if you'll be comfortable wearing all these hats, including the less-than-glamorous ones.

4. COPING WITH SOCIAL ISOLATION

When you were working at a big company, you may have complained relentlessly about your colleagues and managers. However, once you leave the office you might be surprised to discover just how much you relied on Janet in accounting or John in shipping for your social interaction.

The first few months of being on your own can be quite a shock, particularly if you're working out of your home. Do what you can to combat this social isolation. Keep in touch with former colleagues by email or a quick lunch time phone call (Remember, they still are on a time constraint). You might even attend lots of local networking events.

5. LEARN TO SAY, "NO"

As an employee in a big company, you probably got used to saying yes to any and all requests that came your way. After all, yes meant you were reliable and a team player and that can-do attitude probably earned great reviews from your manager. However, this approach won'tget you far as an entrepreneur. For starters, with the time-pressed entrepreneurial schedule, agreeing to and doing everything just isn'tpossible. But more importantly, as an entrepreneur, you need to set the agenda, not just follow everyone else's wishes. Get used to saying NO to everything but your main priorities.

6. CREATE AN ENTREPRENEUR FUND

While success as an entrepreneur often boils down to mindset, there are a few practical considerations as well. In one word, it's cash. You'll be going from a salaried employee to wondering when your next check will come in. If possible, before you leave your job, put away an entrepreneur fund with 6-8 month's worth of expenses (perhaps more, depending on the nature of your new venture). Having a solid safety net will allow you to focus your energy on building your new business, rather than worry about how you are going to pay the bills.

Starting your new job from home as a blogger? You can't start from scratch and make money right away. Start your blog in your spare time at least 6 months before you quit your "real job" and post often to build an audience and then monetize it to see if it's going to make you any money. It will be very little at first until you can get 400 people a day logging on to your contect. Ideal would be 4,000 a day to start making real money. It will also depend on your subject matter. Are you 1 of 45,000 blogs about the same thing or 1 of 6?

7. DON't BE AFRAID OF LONG HOURS

Many people equate the entrepreneurial lifestyle with The Four Hour Work Week or logging in from a beach in Tahiti. While both of these may be possible after time, the typical entrepreneur often finds that he or she needs to work long hours to get this thing off the ground. On some days you might be trading in the 9-to-5 for 9-to-midnight. This is why it's important to start something you love. Remember that you're working to build your own dream, not someone else's. You never want to dedicate more time to following someone else's dream than your own.

Believe me, after 3-4 months of not making much or any money, you ask yourself, "What the heck was I thinking?". Take courage! You're still building a brand from scratch. You think Microsoft was huge in 4 months? No. Johnson & Johnson? No. Give yourself time and just keep plugging away. It will get better.

I started with 3 projects at a time and poured my life into them all at once. This isn't for everyone, especially if you have small children (or a life, unlike me - lol), but that way, you can hope that 1 or 2 work out and then drop the ones that didn't and spent quality time on the ones that do.

This site will submit your site, for free, to Google, Bing, Yahoo and others with 1 click.

That's pretty convenient if you don't want to look for each search engine's submit page and do it yourself. It probably would take about 2 hours.

So they will do it all for free for you. They do offer upgrades besides the free submission that looks like they're worth it. I signed up for the entire directory for $49. They sure do a lot for that, I couldn't pass it up. They'll resubmit your site periodically plus give you PR6 backlinks, social media promotion, customer reviews and more.

Give them a try (click here) for free and if you can afford it, upgrade and start your site off with a bang.

Happy trails!

HOW TO USE GOOGLE+ FOR SEO & TRAFFIC - FAST!

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO USE GOOGLE+ FOR SEO & TRAFFIC - FAST! From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Google+ is still a mystery for most people...and, it's one more thing they don't want to add to all the SEO one must do to be/stay on top.

NOT using Google+ is more of a detriment than you think. It can get your article indexed on the first page of Google within days, if you know the secrets of how to do it. Fortunate for you, I do (grinning to myself) and I'll share it with my readers. I'll give it to you briefly in as least amount of steps I can, so you don't switch over to YouTube and start watching cute cats chase their own tails.

BEGIN: Click here to start a Google Business account (opens a new page). This isn't an instruction on how to set up a Google business account, you're on your own there. I'm just showing how to use it to your advantage for SEO and getting quick traffic.

STEP 1 - Setup your Google+ account if you don't already have one. More than likely, you'll set up as a brand. This area is kind of a catch all for anything but a real brick and mortar store. If you have a blog, you would eventually choose "website" as a subset in a couple pages on after beginning the create a page process.

STEP 2 - Here's where it gets good! You want to fill in everything on your page that you can. Stuff it with keywords right up front. The 'about' page has several things you can fill out, like under "Story" you can fill out a short tagline, introduction & bragging rights. Stuff, stuff, stuff it with keywords related to what you sell/do. The "Links" area, you can put in your Facebook (Fan) Page under "Other Profiles, under, "Contributor to" fill in your .com, and under, "Links" fill in your .com again. This is SEO on autopilot for you, folks. Set it up once and forget it. It's gold! Here's how my "Links" came out below.

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO USE GOOGLE + FOR SEO, LINKS. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

You want to fill as many of the boxes they let you with direct information to your .com or keywords. Even the "Work" section lets you talk about your employment. Guess what? Keywords!

STEP 3 - Have followers add you to their circles as your keywords you want to be known for, such as, "Food Recipes" or "Work at Home Expert", if possible. This is kind of up to them where they put you in their circles, but you can suggest it with sometimes posting something like, "I want to join a "your keywords here" circle. Please add me so we can share ideas."

STEP 4 - When you post stuff on Twitter, Facebook or anywhere else, add in your Google+ page as well.

STEP 5 - Start all your posts out with the heavy hitting keywords in the first sentence. It can even mirror your title. The title and the first sentence is what Googlebot reads to determine ranking for your post/article.

STEP 6 - Share content other than your own. If it shows in your "timeline" then Google will also send people to your page as if the content was yours. Neat, huh? They did the work and you get the glory. That's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

STEP 7 - After you've posted to your Google+ page, make sure to go look at it and +1 it at the bottom left of each posting. This "shares" it with others so they can see your content out on the 'net.

This lesson is now over. It's easy to do and it's like money in the bank. Good luck!

THE 2 THINGS YOU MUST DO WHEN UPLOADING A PICTURE TO YOUR BLOG OR WEBSITE FOR SEO

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

THE 2 THINGS YOU MUST DO WHEN UPLOADING A PICTURE TO YOUR BLOG OR WEBSITE FOR SEO. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

You have a blog or website and you upload hundreds of pictures/images a year to it. You work on SEO putting in keywords, but you miss one thing, the pictures!

You should be adding SEO (search engine optimization) wording to your title and alt tags of every picture! At the end of this article are instructions of how to add title and alt tags to blogger.com and your Wordpress site/blog.

Now that Pinterest is one of the big dogs out there, write your title tags like a sentence that would bring people in to your blog/site. A lot of pins I see, the description says, "Pic 17.jpg" or somesuch nonesense. The person uploading it didn't fill in the title tags or alt tags. Title tags are what Pinterest uses for your pin description and your browser uses it to convey image information when you hover over a picture. The Alt tag displays when your picture fails to load for some reason, at least it will say something (whatever you filled in on the alt tag) in place of your picture. Search engines also use these tags to identify your images for content, improving SEO. Search engines can't read a picture, they need the alt tags filled in. Now you know!

HOW TO ADD TITLE AND ALT TAGS TO BLOGGER

If you're using blogger.com, upload an image and then left click on it. A little menu bar comes up (see pic below) and allows you to make changes. Click on "Properties".

THE 2 THINGS YOU MUST DO WHEN UPLOADING A PICTURE TO YOUR BLOG OR WEBSITE FOR SEO. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

(see pic below). Now this little menu lets you fill in a title and alt tag. Hover over any of the 3 pics in this article and you will see what I filled in for my pictures' title tag. You want to write a sentence for your tags. You can cram it with keywords, but make it read like a sentence. When someone comes to your website and pins one of your pictures to Pinterest, not only does Pinterest capture the URL at the top of the page it came from, but it also captures the wording you put on your tags and carries it on as that pictures' description.

HOW TO ADD TITLE AND ALT TAGS TO WORDPRESS

Click, "edit" (the little pencil). Fill in the Alternative text (alt tag) and the Image Title Attribute (title tag) and click the "Update" button. Do this for each image on your page/post. See the pic 2 below.

If you are just now adding a new image to your page/post, do this:

Click the, "Add Media" button and choose the image you're going to be using. Once you choose the image, a menu pops up on the right. Fill in the Title and Alt text boxes. You really don't have to fill in any of the other junk, it's worthless. Then click, "Insert into post" button and your done. See picture below.

NOTE: For extras, I also put, "From: DavidStilesBlog.com" at the end of my tags, just for more exposure.

This is what your pin description looks like with filled out title tag.

CRUSH IT ON PINTEREST - REVEALING ARTICLE

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

CRUSH IT ON PINTEREST. INTERESTING ARTICLE ABOUT WHAT TO REALLY DO ON PINTEREST TO CREATE A FOLLOWING. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

I was looking up information on Pinterest today when I went to Google and typed in, "pinterest". A funny thing comes up (see pic below) that intrigued me. This is one of the keys to board-making to be popular on Pinterest. If you have the boards that they splash up on Google, you're traffic will increase significantly.

Clicking on one of the topic headers that Google offers brings up a subset picture menu on Pinterest. I'm sure these are going to be ever-changing as the public whim changes, but it's a great start of what type of boards you should have right now.

So stick with the ones that will be around awhile. Justin Bieber may be popular for a little while, but in a year, there will be someone else verses DIY Home stuff will be around forever.

The top boards, as of this writing, would be:

DIY & CRAFTS

FOOD & DRINK

HOME DECOR

Now it's no guarantee that you will have 5,000 followers by next week, but if you keep checking these on Google, change up your boards as they change.

Drop me a line if you have any other ideas on Pinterest Boards:

6 WAYS TO RAISE MONEY TO START A WORK AT HOME JOB/BUSINESS

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

6 WAYS TO RAISE MONEY TO START A WORK AT HOME JOB/BUSINESS.From: DavidStilesBlog.com

So you want to start your own, "Work at Home" business? You ready to tear your hair out?! Just kidding. It can be hard, though. It's zero to little money starting off (blogging can be well over 1.5 years, the average to full-time money being 3 years).

Some of these ideas can inthemselves become full-time jobs, if you really like doing them...or they can just be ideas to help your piggy bank for your work at home job that really wanted to do.

The first thing you'll want to do is to save what you can out of your current paycheck (assuming you have some sort of "real job" right now. $20 here, $10 there adds up. Put it in a special 'no touch' fund.

You can also have a yard sale. I wouldn't sell really good products in a yard sale. Something used that you could get $30 for on eBay will bargain down to $5 at a yard sale, so save the good stuff to sell online. You might even reverse that and go to their yard sales and get items for $5 that you will sell on eBay. You might even love it if you're good at it and making money and that can develope into a full-time work-at-home job all on its own.

Sell crafts or little projects that you make yourself. Even if you can't make quilts or stuffed animals, you may have other talents like woodworking that will pay off with cute bird houses. Don't forget seasonal stuff sells like hotcakes, even though they may not be the hottest thing going. I remember when I was a kid, I made money in grade school by bying stickers for cheap bulk and selling them individually for 6 times what I paid for them. I also made scented candles with different molds then what you could buy at Walmart. I made Santa & Mrs Santa pinecone people and sold them for $2.50/pair and it cost me about 18 cents for the red and white felt and a cotton ball. If a little kid can be that enterprising, so can you.

Join Etsy and sell jewelry on there and advertise on Pinterest (for free). There are lots of wholesale jewelry places online (pandahall.com) that sell jewelry making beads and stuff for cheap or even already made pieces. $50 worth of pretty beads and string can help you build up a stack of cash doing this. I don't think you could quit your job and do only this because of the competition, but it's good side cash savings for something better that you're going to do with it.

Babysit. Babysitting can be good money and the thing is, you can quit whenever you want (I would give a 30 day notice to the parents). Very little money needed to start this. Just baby-proof the house and put out an open sign (depending on your state and the laws they may or may not have for this type of service.)

Social media can be an income. If you're really good at Facebook or Twitter or one of the 50 other social medias, you can run other peoples accounts. Advertise for free on Craigslist. Build up a portfolio and timeline of what you've done for yourself to get your first client. Maybe even setup a quick Wordpress or Wix.com website and put your accomplishments on there.

You can give lessons. Most people can play an instrament, tutor at math or some subject that you excell at. Check around to see the going rate/hr. This is one of the best ways to earn because it's the most consistant and you for sure get paid when you perform a task.

Good luck and get to it!

HOW TO ADD A FAVICON TO YOUR WEBSITE - FOR FREE

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

How to add a Favicon to a website. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Have you ever noticed when you have a couple of tabs open in your browser, you can see these little pictures that represent the website they're from? These are favicons and they also carry on to your computer when you bookmark the site, so when you look at your favorite bookmarks, you may remember the little icon and be familiar with the site.

And having a favicon make you look like one of the "Big Boys" and that you have a "real" site.

It also shows you which page you may want to open later when you see a bunch of tabs open and forget which tab you want to open to view that site again. (See example below. My icon is the DSB one at the right and you can see it at the top of this page also if you look up.)

What browser tabs look like at the top of your page. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

This might seem hard at first, but don't be scared of doing things. It can always be undone, but you'd have to totally not listen to my instructions whatsoever to mess it up horribly, and still, it can be undone.

Adding an ICON to your site can be done in these easy steps (depending on if you're using Wordpress or not):

Use any drawing program that allows you to save a picture as a .ico, not all of them do, but here is a free one you can download called Gimp and then make your icon using Dynamic Drive or Pic 2 Icon Maker. Make it in either 16x16 pixels or 160x160 pixels (which I did, my program lets me do that so I can see it more clearly as I center the letters. The browser will shrink it automatically to a 16 x16 pixels on its own.).

From the program, save the icon to your computer, naming it favicon which will save as favicon.ico.

I've given you 2 types of instructions below depending on what type of site you have. Wordpress first and then non-Wordpress below that.

WORDPRESS INSTRUCTIONS

Upload the favicon.ico to your sites main directory via an ftp program, which your host should have given you access to or the ability to load pictures from your host site via their uploader, like Godaddy or Bluehost. If you're unable to do this, stop here. You can't have an icon and you need to hire a professional.

Go into your Wordpress page dashboard and hover on "Appearance" and click on "Editor".

Your going to copy and paste the below code into a page. Copy it now.

<link rel="icon" href="<?php bloginfo('siteurl'); ?>/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="<?php bloginfo('siteurl'); ?>/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

On the right hand side, you'll see all of the Templates that make up your current Wordpress Theme. Click and open Header (header.php).

You're now going to paste the code you have in your clipboard under the title code (see large illistration) that looks like this:

<title><?php wp_title('«', true, 'right'); ?> <?php bloginfo('name'); ?></title>

or something similar depending on which theme you have.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page (with the far right browser scroller, not the one on Wordpress) and click on the blue button that says, "Update File".

You are now done! If you uploaded the picture in the right wordpress directory (which is either mysite.com/ or mysite.com/wordpress, however you set it up. It doesn't hurt anyway if you put your favicon.ico everywhere, it's just ignored, but to show in a browser, it must be in the same directory as index.php), you can go open your site (refresh the browser if you already had it open) and when the page is finished loading, you should see your little icon all bright in shiny in the tab you have open with your site on it. Cool, huh?

NON-WORDPRESS (LIKE HTML PAGES OR PHP) INSTRUCTIONS

Upload the favicon.ico to your sites main directory where your index.htm or index.php file is.

For HTML pages, add this code line -

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">

to each html page you want the little icon to show in the browser on or these 2 link lines of code for PHP -

<link rel="icon" href="<?php bloginfo('siteurl'); ?>/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="<?php bloginfo('siteurl'); ?>/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

Add it right under the title (can be anywhere between the head begin and the head end tags) and upload each page.

You are now done! If you uploaded the picture in the right directory with your index page, you should be able to go open your site (refresh the browser if you already had it open) and when the page is finished loading, you should see your little icon all bright in shiny in the tab you have open with your site on it. Cool, huh?

7 DARN GOOD REASONS TO START A BLOG IN COLLEGE & SOME ADVICE TO CRUSH IT

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

7 DARN GOOD REASONS TO START A BLOG IN COLLEGE & SOME ADVICE TO CRUSH IT. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

1) Get a blog going right away so that a large audience can be built-in before you're even done Professor Snoozeblat's boring lectures for 4 years. Then you can hit the ground running, as they say.

2) It's possible before your 3rd year, that you are already making money with your blog. So, it can be a source of a small income until you get really serious and devote full-time to it.

3) It builds credit for your resume. Let your employer know that you have worked for 4 years on your blog (Hopefully, it's something you'll want them to see and you're proud of it).

4) It also can be a source of income by the sale of your blog to someone else (maybe at your college) when you're through with it. Make sure not to call it, "Sally Jenning's Blog" or something personal. If it'a a food blog, something like, "Food University" or F.U. for short. Ha ha ha! Oh yes he did! No really, don't give it a personal name unless you're super sure you're going to keep it forever.

5) A blog that you post to regularly will help you with your communication and writing skills. You'll actively have to think, "What will the readers see/think?". This should help you in writing your papers for college as well.

6) Increase your knowledge base by writing your blog. In order to make new articles you'll have to investigate stories and places on the web, thereby learning new words and facts (so it will make you a 'Smarty-pants' with almost super-human powers.) Tell that to your parents next time you phone home for $200.

7) Your blog can be an outlet for your creativety. All day long you're told what to do, how to do it and when to do it by. Stiffling! Now, hit that blog and give it all you got. "Create" YOU on paper! Let it all out (professionally, of course).

HINTS: You'll want to start a serious blog right away so that you build the right audience for later. You don't want to start a blog about skateboarding or college life, because when you're out (and supposedly all grown up) you won't be able to write about this stuff anymore and you don't want to start all over. So, keep in mind a "foward thinking" blog, something that you may want to continue when your out of school and have mounting student loans to pay off.

For Petes' sake, don't hook your blog up to your social media accounts. You might "goof around" and have all-to-revealing pictures or something on one of them and it takes credibility from what your working on, a serious blog-for-profit site.

Now, get out there and blog 'til the cows come home!

HOW TO MAKE YOUR EMBEDED YOUTUBE VIDEO AUTOPLAY...

If you don't have a video that autoplays on your website, the 90's just called and they want you back!

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

How to embed a YouTube video to autoplay on your website. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

(click on pic to see a live website with a youtube autoplay video)

Get with the program, already! Okay, so you put a video up on youtube and figured out how to get the embed link on a YouTube video (you haven't? For shame! See tutorial at the bottom of this article.), but it won't autoplay. (by the way, you can't preview the video while it's on your computer, you have to upload your webpage to view it.) I get around this, a little bit, by putting a "2" where it says, "frameborder="0" making it, frameborder="2". This lets you see a little line frame around where the video is going to play, so that you know where it is spatially.

Ok, back on subject. You put your youtube video on your webpage and need it to autoplay. You will see a line in the code like this, "src="//www.youtube.com/embed/LHVRa5XcuxA?rel=0" or with a 1 on the end instead of a zero. You'll want to cut and paste the words in between the, quotes, "&amp;autoplay=1". Add this to the end of the aforementioned line of code like so, src="//www.youtube.com/embed/LHVRa5XcuxA?rel=0&amp;autoplay=1" with no space in between the zero and the ampersand. Wallah! Now you can upload your page and it will self start every video with that on there.

Be careful if you have more than 1 video, you won't want any others to automatically start playing at the same time! Duh!

NOTE: Video's won't autoplay on a phone. Carriers set it up this way to save the phone owner bandwidth, so they must choose to play the video themselves by pushing the "play" arrow.

How to get the embed link for the above tutorial:

Go view the YouTube video you want to autoplay on your site.

1) Click the "Share" link underneath it (see illistration).

2) Click the "Embed" link that comes up (see illistration).

3) Copy and paste this link (see illistration) as described above.

16 WAYS TO GET MORE PINTEREST PINS

GRAPHIC AND EXPLANATIONS FOR EACH WAY BELOW THAT

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

16 WAYS TO GET MORE PINTEREST PINS. GO SEE THE WHOLE ARTICLE @ DavidStilesBlog.com

1) 600 Pixels wide is the max that Pinterest will show, so you don't want your picture squeezed. 900 pixels tall is the max before they truncate it as well. That way, pinners can see your whole message (unless your making a super long infographic, but you better capture the audiences attention in the first 900 pixels).

2) Look at my graphic above. Very well done with words and colors that grab your attention. Do the same.

3) People repin infographics, a lot. I think because they contain a lot of information and usually are very well conceived (even though they are extra long!)

4) Guess what? Google bot AND (Pinterest bot?) are looking for certain keywords that people type in all the time. I've see Pinterest posts on the front page of Google that are only a few months old.

5) Try to give pinners a "call to action". Tell them to "click here" and tell them why.

6) Using hashtags (#hashtags) of popular twitter words, like #kimkardashian, except relavent to your pin, gets traffic off of Twitter as well as the regular Pinterest people.

7) Use of "catch words". Words like: Look, Love etc get your attention. FREE might be overused, but still makes you look.

8) If you're pushing a product via pinning, put a price in it. It gets more repins and click-thru's.

9) Try to make a long description. "Look at this!" doesn't cut it. Adding in your hashtag and keywords will help elongate, but make it a coherent sentence.

10) Who doesn't love how to's, DIY's etc? Always going to be popular and easily repinnable.

11) You can look at Twitter and on the side or bottom, it tells you what trending words are.

12) Bland, bland, bland. Does your house interior have beige carpet, beige paint with beige trim. (You're boring!). Spice it up, (and maybe your love life?) with color. I make all my pictures myself. I get over 25 repins a day, because they have a great message and super colors (sometimes I like 50's themes - light pastels).

13) You're not "Batman, the Dark Knight", so keep your pics not too dark, but not annoyingly bright. Stay in between.

14) I'm not sure why, but studies show that pics without faces get more repins. Everyone tired of Facebook faces maybe?

15) Smooth is the way to go, baby! No abrasive, craggy pictures or you can hit the bricks!

16) Android phones (at present time) don't show more than 125 characters in your pin description.

And that's 16 ways to boost your pins. Happy pinning!

HOW TO RULE PINTEREST! 8 WAYS TO FORTUNE...

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO RULE PINTEREST! 8 WAYS TO FORTUNE. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

There are millions of people on Pinterest daily. I see a lot in my daily travels through the web. I look at Pinterest and what everyone else is doing. You wouldn't believe how many people have Pinterest boards that NO ONE wants to see. It's incredible. Some with 100 boards, 19,000 pins, and 37 followers. 37! That tells you right there that you have wasted your time pinning stuff that no one cares about.

If you're serious about making Pinterest pay off in the future, (granted, it is NOT "Get Rich Quick"), take your time and do it right. You can look at my boards, for example My Pinterest Boards. Oh, I might have 2 subjects that I made, like Minions Galore and Disneys Frozen Pictures I made for kids, but the rest of them get down to relevant business and topics that people want to read and pin as well. You can also pin to them if you contact me, I'll add you (editor@davidstilesblog.com). Let me know your Pinterest user name and which board you want to (share) pin to.

HOW TO USE PINTEREST TO MAKE MONEY AND GAIN FOLLOWERS

1) PIN DAILY - Try to come to Pinterest daily and pin. You can only build your numbers up that way.

2) "LIKE" OTHERS - Pinterest knows that you're not being "social". If you don't follow AND pin others, you don't move up in popularity.

3) CREATE GREAT COVERS - Ok, maybe your not like me (Jack of all trades) and you can't make your own covers for each Pinterest board you have. At least pick really good pictures as your board cover. I though about changing them often, but I'm against it because when someone comes back and is looking for that category, they will be looking for the familiar cover picture they're used to.

4) FOLLOW RELATED NICHES - Follow others will like interests to your boards you have created. They also may follow you back.

5) GET BACKLINKS - Creating pins yourself from your computer (with a link back to your site that you write in yourself) or creating pins from your website (by pinning one of your pictures - Pinterest adds the URL of the page it came from) you can get backlinks from a top rated site - Pinterest. That's a strong backlink for Google to move you up in rank. (Dang, this stuff is worth $ and I'm giving it away for free!)

6) PIN YOUR CONTENT - Not only does pinning your own content give you backlinks, but this is how you also make money. You can pin affiliate products from your site to Pinterest. People are looking at one of your specific Pinterest boards, clicking interesting things, and they see your cool picture, "How to make $1,000/week at Home", or some such affiliate link. They buy the product, bingo! You get paid!

7) BE CONSISTANT - Be consistant with your pinning and following. Don't get too greedy and only pin your own stuff over and over. If you do, keep it to one particular board so people can choose to ignore that board if they want, because it only contains links to your website.

8) JOIN SHARED BOARDS - Joining shared boards are great. I am a member of 2 that have 160,000 followers and it really helps pick up traffic for you. I get many more pins and followers now, so this is a good way to go until you get 1,000's of followers yourself.

BONUS SECRETS: You can also learn how to get your .com verified by Pinterest and add it on your Dashboard (main page you look at all your boards), free of charge, plus, you can get a free URL link made that will take you to your last 500 pins so that you can update and manage your pins easier by clicking HERE.

I saw a guy's boards, who followed me yesteray, that had only 3 boards. Every link went to his own *&%#*@%&$# squeeze page! What a loser! DO NOT DO THAT!

AVOID A PRODUCT LAUNCH DISASTER WITH THIS 12 STEP PRE-LAUNCH CHECKLIST

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

Ever launch a product and have a complete mess on your hands because you could have done some pre-launch thinking to avoid it? This 12-step list will help...

12 step pre-launch checklist so you can launch a product without disasters. From DavidStilesBlog.com

1. Test Your Sales Process.

Make sure you check your sales process is working correctly, if you have any upsells or downsells in place check every possibility so you know the right product(s) are getting delivered to the customer after purchase. The last thing you want is tons of support tickets from angry customers who haven't received their purchase. Or worse still a payment processor that doesn't work. So make sure everything is running smoothly before you go live. Buy each product from beginning to end of the process.

2. Test Your Product Pages.

It is crucial you test your product thoroughly, make sure your thank you page looks OK, your videos play, your download links work, your eBooks display correctly.

3. Check Your Resource Links.

If you make any recommendations from within your product you should be using affiliate links when you can. After all, if you can recommend a product or service that you use you should get paid for the recommendation. If you do this, make sure you test your affiliate links are working correctly so you get paid. My advice is to use a redirect such as www.yourproductname.com/recommends/product as you can always change/edit links if you need to without having to update your product.

4. Perform a Multiple Browser Check.

Just because your website looks OK in Internet Explorer doesn't mean it will look OK in Chrome or other browsers, especially if it contains tables, so test your product page/pages in the big 4 browsers. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Chrome is now used by 80% of the pc internet users in the US.

5. Spell Check Everything.

It's very easy to misspell a word and not see it yourself so make sure you get someone else to go through all of your product to check for errors. This is a good job for a family member. I still see major website that don't want to "loose" anything when they meant to spell, "lose". Duh!

6. Check Your Opt-In Forms.

Are all of your opt-in forms working correctly? They are, good! Did you check them in multiple browsers? Thought not. Check your opt-in form looks are working in all browsers and check the initial email gets delivered to yourself. Some of the weird ajax programming may not look the same on each browser page. Spacing becomes an issue with some.

7. Update WordPress And Plugins.

If you are using WordPress to launch your product make sure it's up to date, also make sure all of your plugins are up to date. Back up before updating, the last thing you want is your sales page disappearing 3 hours before you go live because you messed up an update.

8. Check Your Membership Access.

If you have a membership site, check access is granted after purchase. Make sure the correct member levels are granted depending on the product(s) bought. The last thing you want to do is give platinum level access to someone buying your basic level access product.

9. Check Your Affiliate Program.

Make sure your affiliate links are working and clicks are registering with affiliates. If you have an affiliate page or JV Blog check everything is OK, make sure that the correct promo tools are in place and it's up to date. Proofread your promo tools as errors here look sloppy. If you are running a launch competition make sure you update your page daily.

10. Check Your Hosting Package is Suitable.

Most hosts will shut you down if you exceed your bandwidth limit so contact your host beforehand and make sure your hosting package is suitable. Try to get "unlimited" such with godaddy.com. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

11. Check Your Support System.

Make sure your help desk is working and if necessary add a new department to reflect your new product. Test the ticket system is working and if you use email for support test everything is working OK. The last thing you need is angry customers mouthing off on Forums and Facebook because they can't get hold of you.

12. Hire Beta Testers.

Hire other people to do the testing for you, such as on http://fiverr.com for $5. Stop wasting your own precious time. The more testers you can get the better as this means there is less chance of something slipping through the net. To get beta testers beyond friends or family members try offering your product for free to trusted people on forums and Facebook friends in return for checking everything out. This is also a great way to get testimonials for your product.

By covering these 12 steps you should have a smooth launch and instead of running around like a headless chicken when your product goes live hopefully you'll be sitting watching the sales come in.

As always feel free to like & share a post if you found it interesting.

BLOGGING? WHAT'S IT GOOD FOR?

So many million bloggers now on the internet, with new ones coming on every day.

WHAT I BLOG ABOUT

With a myriad of subjects, bloggers, like me, are cranking out different content every day or so, sometimes 3 times a day if I run across a problem I can help someone fix or some cool-to-know water cooler information I can relay. Most of my blog posts I write, I find in my daily travels across the web. Usually something I want to get done and have a hard time doing it. I figure it out, write the steps involved and post it for others to have an easier time than I did, fixing or doing something internet related.

TYPES OF BLOGS

There sure are a lot of womens' blogs. Mom's from home etc. all wanting to have an income yet be there for their kids (more power to them!). If you are starting a blog, read almost all my posts, it will surely help you gather your wits enough to get on that horse and ride 'er home.

A lot of non-profits blog...mmmm, interesting, but not something I'd read everyday or would help me online blogging.

"How to" blogs are in the mix. Plenty of them, but their main subjects are all mixed together. One day you can read about how to get more traffic and the next day it's about how to get your cat to stop coughing up so many hair balls. (Bad mental picture, sorry.)

Business blogs are out in a-plenty. I find myself going to sleep reading them. "How to internalize your improvement rationalization of the newest economic equilibrium of the most recent stagnation of down-turning data". What? You had me asleep at "internalize". Boring!

Fun blogs. These are the ones I read. Informative. Clean, neat. Good graphics in the stories. No flashing ads asking me if I want to buy car insurance (I do run Google Adwords, though, sorry. The bank wants their mortgage payment every month on the 1st for some reason). I try to model my site after them. I hope you've been enjoying what I've shared with you guys in the last 3/4 months, the birth of this blog.

MOVING FORWARD

I'll continue to offer you guys what I learn every day in my "net travels". I'll talk the talk because I've already walked the walk. (or is it vice-versa? Whatever, you know what I mean.)

FREE OR SELF HOSTED BLOG? WHICH SHOULD YOU USE?

Using a free blog site is NOT a good idea if you're serious about continuing your blog ad infinitum.

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

Use a Free or Self Hosted Blog? From: DavidStilesBlog.com

A free blog/website site, like with blogger.com, is great, I have a blog on blogger also, but I only use it for traffic to my real blog site that I host (well, Bluehost hosts it - if you want to try them out they've been easy, cheap and great - Bluehost Link).

You want to have control of your blog. Say blogger decides to shut down or your site gets deleted (it's happened, Google it). You might have a free blog only if you're not serious about it. Like posting cat pictures or grandchildren or Aunt Martha's Shoo Fly Pie recipe, but, to make sure you're always in the drivers seat, make sure you have control.

If you use Wordpress, download a copy often for safety, (on Wordpress, it's on your Dashboard, Tools, Export). Keep it in a separate file that you update at least weekly and especially BEFORE you update your Wordpress template version. It's a nightmare if the update doesn't work right or had a bug in it. Then you would just upload your saved version and all is well.

Also, if you ever want to monetize your blog/website, it's very difficult to use anything but Google Adsense with blogger.com (because they are owned by Google) and, if you ever want sponsors, they aren't going to take you seriously on a free blog/website. You WANT sponsors. They will contact you after many months of posting good articles and they see you are serious and going to continue, they will offer you to put on ads that jibe with your type of branding. That's where the real money is! Would you offer anyone money to put your ad on their site that was a free site? Not really. You want to know they are serious and going to stick around for a long time.

EVER COPY/PASTE A .png AND THE BACKGROUND TURNS BLACK? THE FIX...

Here's the dilemma...You see a great graphic online or belong to a graphic download site. It's a large .png graphic. It's stunning and you want it, so you copy and paste it onto your graphic making software and it comes out with a black background and you wanted it clear, like the picture online.

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

How to fix a .png black backround picture when you copy and paste it. From: http://DavidStilesBlog.com

THE MISTAKE: You used copy and paste. Copy and paste is still too retarded to catch up with technology and won't render the information with a clear background like the original site you copied it from.

THE FIX: You must right click the image and "Save image as" (on Chrome) or the equivalent on your browser and save it somewhere on your computer you will find it again.

HOW TO CHANGE THE HEADER PICTURE ON WORDPRESS BLOG DEFAULT IN 4 STEPS

Ever want to change your “default” blog theme’s header to a picture? Now you can in 4 easy steps. I hope it’s not too complicated. I figured out how to today and wrote these instructions:

(Please use our Pin it button so that the correct URL will be used for the link back to this exact article.)

HOW TO CHANGE THE HEADER PICTURE ON WORDPRESS BLOG DEFAULT IN 4 STEPS. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

READ THIS TUTORIAL ALL THE WAY THROUGH FIRST!

1) Create your header in jpg format, make it 740 pixels wide by 120 pixels tall and call it, “kubrickheader.jpg” (named after the guy who wrote the “default” blog theme for WordPress).

2) You will also need to create a page called, “header-img.php” and replace the page, “header-img.php” on your dot com. You’ll find that page here: yoursitename/wordpress/wp-content/themes/default/images (or if you moved your wordpress into your main/home directory you can find it at: yoursitename/wp-content/themes/default/images) as well as the image you need to replace. Just in case you muck it up, save a copy of the header-img.php file to your computer first. It should be ok, though. This tutorial works (look at the top to see my personal sites’ header and not the colored one that WordPress makes for you). Any updates by WordPress and you may have to re-do this tutorial again. I’ll keep it here for years.

3) Only write this code on your new page, header-img.php and nothing else:

<?php
/**
* @package WordPress
* @subpackage Default_Theme
*/

/** @ignore */
$img = ‘kubrickheader.jpg';

// If we don’t have image processing support, redirect.
if ( ! function_exists(‘imagecreatefromjpeg’) )
die(header(“Location: kubrickheader.jpg”));

//die;
header(“Content-Type: image/jpeg”);
imagejpeg($im, ”, 92);
imagedestroy($im);
?>

4) Save it and upload the graphic you made for your header (kubrickheader.jpg) and your new header-img.php.

5) Check your site to make sure your blog page looks ok. You may have to refresh your browser to see the changes. I was using Chrome and actually had to delete history and refresh to see the change.

Looks good? Super! Feel free signup for updates and get the FREE 45 page ebook (see top left hand side of page). :)

White House now charging $150/mo for internet use...Now that they own it. From: DavidStilesBlog.com

Now that the White House is in charge of the internet, they are going to start charging $150/mo "tax" on each internet connection.

Sounds just like something they'd do with our Out-of-Control lawmaking coming out of DC lately, but his was just an April Fools joke. I hope I gotcha! :)
