(GUIDE) HOW TO MAKE PINTEREST RICH PINS
This rich pin article is geared toward bloggers that pin articles. If you don't have a regular blog, see the rich pin links at the bottom for: Recipes, Movies, Products and Places - everything is done the same below, exept you have different metatags and wording to add. I couldn't really find any Wordpress plugins (on Wordpress.org) that specifically addresses Pinterest rich pins, so you'll have to use the guide below.
Adding rich pins isn't too difficult, you just need to pay attention to the details of this guide.
Why do you want Rich Pins? Because they make your pins stand out. You can spot them easily on a page of regular pins (the Little People as I like to call them, now that I'm a Big Shot with MY pins being all rich and all).
The first thing you'll want to do is add the following code (which are meta tags) to your main page, (index.php - wordpress site or index.html - Non-Wordpress site). The rich pin meta tags go anywhere in between the <head> and the </head> tags. You should see other meta tags there as well.
Copy and paste the below code into your index page, make the changes and save it. Change only, SUBJECT OF YOUR ARTICLE HERE. From: Mysite.com and change MySite.com to your site name. No "http://" needed, just the name of your site, att.net, myproduct.biz etc.
<meta property="og:title" content="SUBJECT OF YOUR ARTICLE HERE. FROM: MySite.com" />
After you've added the above code and changed it then saved it, go here: Rich Pins Validator and fill in your full URL dot com address to the EXACT page. Example: http://mysite.com/index.php or http://mysite.com/index.html. If you put the rich pin meta tags on any other page than your index, you'll have to add that to your URL instead: http://mysite.com/otherpagename.htm. Click the, "Validate" button. It says in about a week they'll let you know, but I did this 3 weeks ago and it took them less than an hour to notify me that I passed (did it right) and my, "Rich Pins" started working within an hour.
The next page that comes up seems like it should have just went to the next step for you because that's why you're here, to get validated. Click on, "Apply Now" button and then the next screen comes up telling you to wait on the email, which is usually that day if not within hours that you're ok'd.
So, for every new page you make, you will need to add the code/meta tags and change them for that page to mirror what topic/article that page is about. You don't need to validate any more pages, just the 1 time to let Pinterest know you're about to get your Rich Pins on. Once you're ok'd, you just add new pages to your site with the tags and your done!
NOTE: You will want to add an icon to your site so that everyone can see you on a tab/browser page so it looks professional. Adding rich pins will "look" for your icon to add it to your pins. I think it assigns you an ugly grey generic one if you don't.
