THE SIMPLEST WAY TO ACTIVATE YOUR NEW IPHONE WITH ATT
So you got a new iphone, huh? Well here's the simplest way to activate it with the carrier AT&T.
I recently got a new iphone 6 plus and noticed that AT&T's own directions were either stupid in places, wasting my time, or they were just out-and-out wrong on what you needed to do. (Really?! A billion dollar company can't even write directions to activate my new $750 plus tax phone? Geez!). Well, I've shortened what they said to do and corrected it so you can get your new toy up and running quick. Read through my instructions first to make sure you don't follow the onscreen instructions and waste time.
This works on any iphone, new, old, refurbished, whatever.
You will need to check for new iphone IOS updates. Go to :Settings, General, Software Update and if there is a new update you need, update to the latest IOS (Apple operating system). Sometimes when they ship your phone, a new update has already came out and you need to add it on your phone BEFORE you begin activating it.
START ON THIS ATT WEBSITE PAGE (picture below)
This is where you'll need information from an email that AT&T sent you. If you deleted it from your email AND emptied your trash, click the link on the screen that says, "Resend activation number in a new confirmation email." they will resend it to you. That email contains your order number and activation number. It didn't let me cut and paste the order number from the email, I had to enter it manually, but it did let me cut and paste the activation number. After you entered those numbers, click the "Continue" button in the bottom right.
I can no longer see the screens as it won't let me back up, but I think the next screen asks you to choose the phone that you are setting up. Of course, 99% of you will only have the 1 phone, so choose it. The next information it will be looking for is the IMEI and ICCID (Sim card) numbers.
IMEI NUMBER. DO NOT REMOVE BATTERY OR YOUR SIM CARD! This is where their instructions are stupid. They tell you to take out the battery and look at your sim card. Don't do this! There are 3 ways to get this...(1) On the new iphone you are activating, go to your phone dialing keypad and press, *#06#. This will immediately bring up your IMEI number and you need to type that long number into the AT&T website. (2) Get it from the bottom of the box that your Iphone came in, IMEI/MEID number. (3) Press Settings then About and scroll down to where you can see the IMEI and press the number for a few seconds and the "Copy" will pop up. Press the "Copy" if your doing it from your phone, then you can just paste it into the website. If your doing it from your computer, type in the numbers from your phone to AT&T's website.
ICCID NUMBER. If you went to Settings then About in the above step to find your IMEI number, you'll notice your ICCID number is right below your IMEI number. Cut and paste it into the data box or type it in. Or, you can turn over the box that came with your phone and it will have it there as well (20 digits). Submit/Continue to the next page.
Now it tells you to wait on an email that will never come, if it says, "Confirmed" by your phone setup. If you were replacing another phone with a new one, chances are, powering down the old phone and powering down then turning on the new phone, will activate the new phone. It will longer say, "No Service" at the top, but show AT&T bars. If it doesn't, wait 15 minutes and power down the new phone and back on again.
If you had an iphone that you are replacing with another, copy all your contacts and info into a computer using itunes and a cable and then you can hook up your new iphone and download all the info into it.
